A failed scarcity (market) economy is unable to restart itself when it is stopped or nearly stopped due to a depression, war, pandemic or exploitation. Scarcity economies are also unable to provide an equitable wealth distribution on a long term basis. Once a rich/poor imbalance is established it intensifies until some dramatic upheaval occurs.
A failed market (scarcity based) economy does not restart by itself. It has normally only been possible to restart this type of economy with massive outside aid or large government programs financed through deficit spending on things such as a war or both.
Abundance economics is one of the few ways to help end economic failure in third world nations. It is able to do this because it can supply people with goods and services even though they do not have cash or credit or are reluctant to spend it due to economic uncertainty.
The abundance goods that people receive along with the small amount of money they are able to earn allows economic expansion to occur in the poorest sectors of the economy. In an abundance economy, the poor are not spending their scarce money or going without some very basic goods and services needed for life. People are more productive because they are healthy and do not spend major portions of thier day in a futile search for basic necessities.
Abundance economics depend on the affected people themselves rather than on the unpredictable whims of governments or the very limited funds available to charities. The affected people are most aware of what they need and what will work in an impoverished area. For example, computers do not help a school that does not have electricity. Methods are needed to give the needy a voice which would allow their true needs to be satisfied and progress to be made.
People and countries with abundant resources need to help others to provide abundance of basic life needs (food, water, education, shelter, clothing, basic medical care and prevention, security, etc.) for their people. This will help to end much of the misery, strife and warfare in the world.
- Technology exists to provide people with a decent lifestyle. It is just a failure of economics and politics that causes poverty. The technical methods to produce the desired results are generally well known.
- There are people who can and will provide the knowledge to create the parts of a decent lifestyle.
- There are many methods for achieving the results that have different combinations of technical expertise, money, materials, labor, markets and present conditions.
- Many intermediate steps which were required of original adopters are unnecessary for later adopters of technology. For example, modern computing equipment can be used without the need to revisit all of the early generations of computer processors, operating systems, software, modems etc.
- Most of the work needs to come from the people involved. Many of the people are unemployed or underemployed, so excess labor can be used to create solutions. Some work may come from trading an abundance good for labor. For example, providing free food to people if they agree to help build schools, housing, clinics or clean up an unhealthy and unsanitary area or do some other job that will bring benefit to the entire community.
- Some necessities (food, clean water, shelter, clothing, education, security) can be obtained by donations. These should be traded for work or goods to create more necessities. Knowledge could be used to allow a community to build a water purification plant. Healthy, pure water could be traded for community work or goods. These will be used to trade for more abundance and needed community goods, etc.
- Microloans can give people the small start that is needed to begin developing a viable economy. Starting the market economy portion along with developing an abundance economy will create rapid progress. Kiva.org is an organization that allows you to choose who will receive your loan. The amount can be as small small as $25.
